Let me re-introduce myself…
I recently asked a question on my private FB page for blog ideas for my website. I had some amazing ideas thrown my way, many in which you will see come to life on my blog over the next few months, but one answer really resonated with me… my friend told me this- “Julie, my personal belief is that your blog should be YOUR heart”.
I think I’ve lost sight of that recently… with many reasons affecting my decision to post more often and post more than just session highlights. Don’t get me wrong- I absolutely LOVE posting blogs about my amazing clients- it’s one of my favorite things to do! But I also love sharing my heart. Sharing knowledge. Sharing blogs that may touch someone across the street or across the nation.
Obviously if you are on this website… you know who I am. It may be the first time you’ve been on my website, or the 500th… but if you’ve browsed around at all, checked out my “About me” page, you may have gotten some snippets of who I am.
You see me as Julie, The Newborn Artist.
A gal who takes photographs of babies. Has two beautiful kiddos. Is an entrepreneur. Loves to teach. Works A LOT. LOVES espresso and makeup.
But I want to re-introduce you to who I truly am. I want to re-introduce you to my company. Maybe give you a little more insight as to why I do what I do, why I am the way I am… so here we go.
My name is Julie. I am The Newborn Artist.
I specialize in Birth and Newborn Portraiture.
Oh wait… is that too bland? Too “this is my perfect website statement”? Let’s get a little deeper.
First and foremost, I am a believer and follower of Jesus Christ. My little family and I attend an amazing church in Puyallup, a church we are active in, serving Christ and our local community. I serve on our worship team. Am I a great singer? I’m ok… I can carry a tune. But I am a firm believer that God gave me many talents and He wants us to share them with the world. Which is also one of the main reason’s I am a birth and newborn photographer… but I’ll delve into that in a moment.
I’m a mom to two amazing, creative, silly, funny, dramatic children. If you book a session with me… you’ll meet my kiddos sometime in passing. 😉 I love selfies. I love good espresso. I love late night chats with my best friends and business partners…
So by now you know that I’m a singing, Jesus followin, mama of two who loves to talk, sing, take selfies and drink espresso. But you probably already knew that if you actually know me in person.
How I got started in the photography industry-
My journey as a photographer has been a bit of a journey… with some major twists in the road. Photography has always been a love of mine. I always enjoyed taking photos at camp when I was a kid. Photos of everything… with my good ole’ Kodak camera. And of course… my Polaroid camera (which I still have prints from to this day saved in my photo box). But photography was never a “MUST” for me… I was focused on life when I was in my late teens and 20’s. I went to college. Got married. Had two kids. Got divorced in my 30’s. And still hadn’t found myself completely yet…
I didn’t fully immerse myself in my art, my craft until I was going through my divorce. I started taking photos with a company as a part time job in 2007-2009, to make some extra cash for the holidays and such, but never really enjoyed photography yet. Then I met this amazing friend, who introduced me to her boss… and I became an intern. I was almost 30 and an intern. But we had some fun! Here’s a fun fact for you… I started out as a dog photographer. Like legit dog photographer. Maybe that’s where my patience stems from… So while I was interning, I was helping my mentor on the business side, since I DO have my degree in Business Management. While I was working with my mentor, I found my love of photography… and my love of photographing newborn babies.
My daughter was my first official newborn session. So August of 2010 is when I found my love of newborns. And August of 2011 is when I realized how much I LOVE photographing birth. Ever since then, I’ve been fully immersing myself in my art and business.
Why I seek authenticity-
This will be the end, I promise since this is a long post. But some people ask why I focus so deeply on authentic connections with my clients. The answer is simple. Each person that comes through my studio doors has something so incredibly special about them. As their chosen artist, my job is to capture them in all their realness, all their beauty, all their true authenticity. No crazy Photoshop. No fake smiles or fake anything. All real. And isn’t that the goal of a true artist? To capture REAL, AUTHENTIC beauty?
Well… I hope you have gotten to know me just a little bit more! I want to thank you for taking the time to read this long winded blog post… and thank you for thinking of me to capture your motherhood story…
